>I'm not as anti-government as you (is anybody????)

I am not an anarchist. There is a role for the government at different levels. The problem I have is with the constant call for more regulation and laws to "protect us" from ourselves and others. These laws infringe on our rights in ways we'll be unlikely to ever recover.

A few examples :
-DUI checkpoints are in direct conflict with the 4 amendment yet the Supreme court backed them by effectively saying that the ends justify the means. The 4th amendment effectively no longer exists as long as the laws passed can justify their existence.

-The 1st amendment protects freedom of speech and was written with political speech in mind. McCain-Feingold limits political speech. Goodbye 1st amendment.

-Private property rights are at the center of freedom in this country, yet seizure laws and the Kelo decision basically put that to an end.

The consistent call for more regulation and more government in general has me very disturbed for our future, to say nothing of what I see here on the thread.
