Thx. That did lead me to the problem - which wasn't the data binding for the grid but the Rowsource for a combobox in one of the columns (The underlying cursor was being rebuilt)

Did find an oddity though:
The grid is built on the fly so, to enable me to reset the RowSource on the combobox, I added a form property to hold a reference to it. I found that unless this was NULLed before closing the form VFP threw a fatal error :={
