I disagree with that statement.

He brought down crime in New York City (some claim 50%)
Managed New York City which is more difficult than most states.
He is a strong leader.
Favors gun control.
Favors gay unions and gay rights.
Favors the right to choose on abortion.
Strong on national security.
Strong record as a tax-cutter.

However, he will never win because he is too socially liberal for Republicans and too Republican for Democratics. Now, to be fair, the list against him is strong (starting with debt increase, power-grabbing worse than Bush, promises strict constitutionalists on the supreme court, et al) as well and much too strong to make him a viable nationwide candidate, but I just wanted to point out that there is more substance than you claimed.
