>The way we have to check for cash drawer status is by using SilverWare's SilverFox Library to talk directly to the com ports. Usually you ask the printer the drawer is attached to to give you the status of the drawer, but sometimes the drawer will interface directly to the com port and you can ask it. If you can find some way to connect to the com port (maybe via fopen or the equivilant) I see no reason you couldn't do it that way.

The responses are usually defined by the printer but, it is safe to assume that a non-zero value means something is going on!

You know compadres, the reason why I have to exert extra effort on this case is because we do not have anymore excuse with our client who fortunately trusted us to replace the existing POS for Dutyfree shop done in PROGRESS which until now for some reasons, it's not working the way expected it to be - no back-end reports, very slow. We already have previous project (POS also but another site) on this client which I would say successfully done in FOX2.6, and at this time, he wanted to implement it on other site (the one mentioned with POS installed done in PROGRESS which is a failure) with some adjustments including the problem that I brought about.

As I am watching lots of POS in the market, I noticed that when the cash drawer is opened, the system is asking the user to close the cash drawer first before proceeding into next transaction. And our client is asking us to do the same with our FOX2.6 POS before replacing the existing PROGRESS POS. I said to myself and colleagues, hey they have done it, why not us?

Anyway thanks for all your answers and I will still wait for more inputs.
