>We are trying to figure out why running a new installation, different version, etc, would wipe out files in one of our destination data directories. The old version and the new one both write to this directory. By only installing the new version it is deleting files in that directory. All it should be doing is installing some other things, and adding some files to the data directory, not deleting anything. We are not uninstalling the old version as that definately wipes out the files. Any ideas?

Is it overwriting with files that are part of the setup.exe?
Does the newly installed app create files of the same name thereby creating empty files of the same name?
