>FWIW, Bill Gates just gave one of his final speeches as a MS employee. He says that installed apps on PCs are "yesterday" and that the future is internet apps accessed via personal devices with no keyboard. He also says that people won't know or care where or how their "data" is stored. Yeah VFP could have been a player in this new world, but imagine how VFP's easy/cheap delivery of fat client apps on multiple versions of Windows plus VFP's detailed data focus supported by a defiant developer community must look to a MS executive reviewing the future according to MS. Perhaps we're lucky it made it all the way to VFP9.
People may not care how or where their data is stored?
My gut says it will be one long time yet before people ignore WHERE their data is stored.
And isn't it clear that MS has a vested interest in applications being loaded fresh from the internet?... How many people are still using Office 97 (costing MS millions)?
cheers
