Thank you, I realized how stupid that assumption was on my part! I just setup my own database, still can't connect to it but chaning the server to ".\sqlexpress" helped (Thank you Cetin).

In the Events log I see:

Login failed for user "mydomain\myname" [CLIENT: (local machine>)]

Am I hitting security issues?
