Don't know. But bugles, alpinhorns etc all pretty much work like that. Can't remember if it is a third or a fifth, but I'm betting a fifth since the E is keyed but I don't believe the G is.
The part I never quite understood is why the trumpet is a Bb instrument - I guess it makes fingering easier when transposed from C.
>I wonder why there is any set increment. Our lips can make minute changes, so why only by a fifth? There must be some physics involved with the design of the intrument that causes the incremental jump.

>>Could be completely wrong in remembering but I do remember than with no valves you could play a bugle call, so that means not just octaves.

>>>There are only 8 possible valve combinations. How do you play the full 12 notes with sharps and flats? The lips are a variable that can change the note values for a combination, but I thought only by an octave.

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy
Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.
-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin
Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
