At Bata/Bolivia, I did all structural changes in an empty copy of the database, i.e., zero records per table. Then, I had a procedure that updated either my test data, or the data in the production database, basically doing an APPEND FROM for every table. This made it very easy to update changes to the database for the production database.

As part of this procedure, I disabled referential integrity (using TaxRI instead of standard VFP RI), and some triggers, through the setting of appropriate variables.
