Yes. In my case I created a data layer class based on a CA. In MereMortals it's more complex - you have a business object (custom based class) with its own DE (data access) class - all details of the implementation were hidden from the developer.

You also can have a non-visual class and add it programmatically to the form (that's the case of CA).
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
