Ok here's a weird one I think. I want to run a SQL Select that creates a numeric field of a specific size, but have it populated with nulls.

I tried:

SELECT *, VAL(.null.) AS testno FROM sometable 

This gave me a field called testno thats N,1. I need to make testno N,9 yet still have it populated with all null values. Can I do this without doing the SELECT with 9 zeros AS testno then REPLACE ALL to fill with nulls? TIA!!
