Spanish Inquisition, Joan of Arc's ashes maybe a little warm, Jews booted from Spain. A little less than desirable but things Christians learned from and turned away from. Only a few years later in 1517 Luther posted his 95 Theses and Christianity really started to change. Maybe, by 2640 Islam will have likewise evolved and we'll all live in peace and harmony. So, when someone says we're in the "War on Terror" for the long haul . . . they may mean the reallllllly long haul.

Yes Scott, you are not far from what's happening.
Islam is in need for "Luther" for similar reformation that's why the west and moderate Muslims are not fighting the war the way it should be.
The war should be fought by finding those moderate Muslim scholars and support them all the way. Trust me there are many of them. King Abdullah of Jordan last year has a conference that attracted hundred of those moderate Islamic scholars.
