There is a Service Pack for Visual Studio 2005 specifically for Vista - you really need that in order for VS2005 to work properly.
I've been using Vista since it was released in 2006 (my opinion of Vista has taken a serious dive of late) and VS2008 since it was released last month. I still have VS2005 on my Vista machine as well.
I only develop ASP.NET apps in VS2008, and so far I think VS2008 has smoothed out a number of rough edges from VS2005.
The IDE is nicer. Intellisense has improved and broadened support. It works with Vista without issues as far as I can tell (one of the first Microsoft apps I can say that for).
It has added new problems - AJAX controls are poorly documented and not reliable in my limited experience, and it screws up VSS2005 so you have to get a patch for VSS2005 AND change a setting for it to work properly again.
Overall if I had to choose which to work with, I pick VS2008.
