You should start setting out the false beacons. Try and attract a shipload of scotch.

>>>Ever heard of a wood-slick coming ashore? Well all along the south coast here the strand line is strewn with washed up timber:
>>>
>>>"Worthing beach has been shut to allow heavy machinery to remove the timber which has come ashore from the Greek-registered Ice Prince.
>>>
>>>The ship sank about 26 miles (42km) off the coast after a storm. ..."
>>>

>>>
>>>This applies to 10 miles east at Brighton here too. It sounds like a beachcomber's dream but the councils and police and "stewards" are all down there guarding the wood, and 1,000s of ££ fines are threatened for any takers. SO a beachcomber isn't even allowed on the beaches at the mo, to look for bona fide flotsam.
>>>
>>>And just when we've recently got a vegetable allotment and could do with some timber to build a shed, make raised beds with, etc. It's heartbreaking!

>I didn't hear that. There aren't exactlty people with clip-boards, withe teh rel. paperwork thronging the huge stretch of coast. Down by the marina here there's tonnes & tonnes fetched up against the storm walls and beached, still some drifting in. It's quiet down there with good car access, no officials, and a few filling their "boots" (one guy was on his 3rd visit, to deck his yard). There's just SO MUCH. The storms have also conveniently chopped some short to fit in the car. I think I will go get some, as we need an allotment shed. I could build it of solid planks, like a brick sh*thouse! :-)

>>Its a shame as you say. Most of it will probably end in landfill.

>There was a local newspaper citation of wood from the wreck being up for sale soon, but I can't find it again. One guy on the beach was making square stacks, as if for drying it out, but there was a wee tent underneath and another guy, so I'm not sure he wasn't a homeless guy making an impressive bivouac :-)
