To add to Jim's advice, find an organization that does something you're interested in and join. Could be a book club, a knitting circle, a model airplane club, etc., etc., etc. Something that gets you out and with people.

Naomi, I'd think your synagogue and the other parents from your kids's schools might offer options here.
