I'm not an egg specialist but it may well be that the egg i buy in the shop was hatched in fe Poland.

As far as groceries are concerned it evens out in the West European countries. Will be cheaper in the East European states as they have perhaps 1/5 of the buying power we enjoy. As i said it takes time. Eastern Germany is a prime example.
