Every 2 years or so we get an ice storm and people go absolutely insane. Don't even think about hitting the grocery store before the storm (whether it actually hits or not) because everyone's trying to stock up before the next Ice Age (the ice generally lasts about 2 - 3 days, depending on what follows).

The last ice storm hit last year and both of the bosses live within 5 miles of the office and were crazy enough to come into work. Neither could understand why I didn't want to drive 25 miles over bridges, overpasses and fly-overs to get here.

>I know the feeling! Born in Wisconsin and got my driver's license while living in Colorado. Snow, ice, and steep mountain roads a regular occurrence. You haven't lived until you've driven over Vail Pass in the ice or across the San Juans just after the snow plows go through :o) However, here we have drivers from all over the world due to the military base. Normally we have mild weather, but since we don't have enough snow for snow tires, nor enough ice for chains, and we only have one sand truck in the county, it isn't safe to driver anywhere when it snows here. You can assume that the majority of the drivers on the road with you have seldom seen the stuff before let alone drive in it! :o) Our problem is usually black ice in late January or early February. So far none of that really and let's hope it stays that way :o)

>>>>>>Ahh. Life in winter. We have this lousy sunny beach weather. It even got cold this morning (56F) for a change, but will be close to 80F later in the week. You guys have all the fun. {G}

>>>>Hey, didn't we just have a few nights of frost? And the snowfall a couple of weeks ago that lasted almost 20 minutes (with sunshine :). And the other snowfall later when there was about 3mm of snow which lasted two days (in shady corners). And how many accidents did we have last Monday? I couldn't hear myself think from all the sirens...

>>>Its been pretty mild here, so i cant complain too much. But South Beach sounds pretty good right about now. At least our weathermen are consistent if not accurate. The news coverage was similar to what they do when a hurricane is a thousand miles away. Was debating whether to let my son drive to school that day. He said he passed 6 wrecks on the short ride in.

>>As usual in Virginia, it's not the bad weather, it's the drivers who fill their pants when they find themselves in it. My first winter here in VB (03/04) it so happened that snow fell twice, both times on a Sunday afternoon while we were in the library. Driving the VBoulevard felt so like Vienna - waltzing everywhere ;).
