Here in FL - if you're not at home and your alarm goes off - the cops won't go to your house anymore. First, your alarm company has to call you - then you're supposed to go home and see if there is an intruder - THEN call the cops. There is a big ruckus about it going on out here...

Now most cities use 'false alarm software' to track the number of false alarms at business and residences and each charge for these calls on a sliding scale. Most require permits as well with a modest fee. Next will be 'false biological terrorism calls.' You'll have to start paying the city on the 3rd false alarm every 12 months :o)
