Nor do I see it as America's fault. Your country has done extrordinarily well. You have every reason to be proud of what two centuries of hard work have brought to you.

>You are correct of course. It would be nice if everyone behaved appropriately in every country they visited. Alas, we are all human, and that will never happen. Also, it is a shame Hollywood is in the U.S. If it were in Spain, then perhaps all of the movies would show everything from the Spanish point of view? :o) Every country does make their own movies of course. I watch many foreign films every year. They win the 'foreign film' category though at the awards ceremonies here in the U.S. :o) To be fair, Americans do make films that spotlight life in other countries and even from the indigenous population's view. They seldom become blockbusters though. That is the problem. Hollywood mostly makes what sells and as long as junk is selling, junk will be made. I do not see that the fault of the U.S. though. When films made in every country sell at the same rate as American made films, perception will change. Tell everyone in every country to stop watching American tv
>and movies!

>>I too was in Europe for five years, with NATO. But when I was about five years old, I can remember hearing someone say, "There is nothing worse than an American outside his country." That statement implies that every American is the same and they are not, so the statement is as incorrect as the person who spoke it. But this anti-American feeling lingures in populations throughout the world. Part of this sillyness would be brought on by Hollywood's portrayal of the USA in the first and second world wars. They're great if you are an American but for anyone else the message is that the USA fought those wars alone and what their country did doesn't exist. Just a week or two ago, a fellow from turkey was on here spouting the 'Yankee go home routine'. For some in the middle east it would be the US support of Israel or their lunatic imam's irrational blurtings. And for others it might just be because your country is the big kid on the block. Perhaps it's best to ignore it, enjoy your life

>>>You're talking to the wrong person Grady. You should be speaking to the 17-20 year olds in uniform who walk around arrogant in foreign countries because they are scared out of their minds and it's all bluster. When I was in Europe, I was fortunate that I blended in quite easily. I looked Scandinavian or German and every place I went, people spoke to me in their native language until they realized I was American. I didn't spend my free time with other Americans. I had locals who were friends and we travelled together. The friendliest folks, believe it or not, were in Netherlands. The only rude folks I met were in Spain and that was only to Germans. Those in Holland were very rude to Germans too. Both countries talked nasty about all the German tourists when they thought they couldn't understand them.
>>>
>>>I'll tell you something else. Most Americans are not rude or arrogant, but simply ignorant of local customs. Given the young's propensity for drinking alcohol, locals do not always see them on their best behavior. Most of my fellow peers had many friends locally. But the saying "It only takes one" is very true. Also, I never saw an American behave as arrogant as most Germans behave daily!

>>>>>I have news for you - There has been hate an discontent towards the US for the past sixty years. For the record, I do not count myself among those who feel that way. For the most part the comments are mostly about the arrogance and bragging of Americans about the USA when visiting other countries.

>>>>Apples and oranges - In spite of your country's power, be humble and you'll get further folks in other countries. Remember the excuse used to justify 911? America's arrogance was mentioned. In our eyes that's about the dumbest excuse there could possibly be, but in the middle east being arrogant must be close to murder in their eyes. It's a strange strange world.
I ain't skeert of nuttin eh?
Yikes! What was that?
