A lot of times when you make router changes it requires a router reboot, which means you lose your wireless connection. Sometimes it doesn't come back.
I usually make my changes with a wireless connection, but probably about 25% of the time I do I need to get my lazy behind up and plug my cable in to fix a problem.
BTW, it is an extremely good practice to change the default name of your router and the password. If I were wireless surfing I would see the default name, know what type of router it is, google router passwords, shut down your security, download porn, search for shared drives, search for shared printers, and maybe set up a network packet sniffer.
You would never know what hit you.
