I was also told that the power supply, memory, video card etc. would not work with a new computer. The audio cards were very expensive and worked with XP Professional.
I am really sorry to hear that your local store did not value their personal relationship with you.
I had a similar experience with a desk top machine I bought from my local supplier in 2001. In 2003, I could not get it to boot, and I was told that the memory, etc woould not work with the new mother board. But these guys valued our relationship and they replace the RAM and the video card free of charge.
We have even gotten referrals from them for people looking for custom software < s >.
