Steve Black's presence is always an asset. He's quirky, charming, funny, egomaniacal and brilliant. His pissing match with JVP made me feel embarrassed for them both, but I'd rather see geniuses misbehaving than dull people being dull.

>take it that the complaints were due to the fact that they couldn't win any argument with jvp. He knows how to argue, he quickly finds the week spot. Then people get emotional
>
>Ahem. Unless people accept and acknowledge fault, how can they change?
>
>Despite being the target of the worst insult he ever launched (and no, I did not respond emotionally ;-) ) still I'd be happy to see JVP's sort of enthusiasm around here- though it's Michel that needs to be persuaded, not us- and only if JVP wants it. Since KG is asking, maybe JVP really does want back in. When he got his degree, my expectation was that he would immerse himself in his new career/peer group and never look back. Maybe he's got a new career in mind; consultancy? Training? Who knows?
>
>In fairness: how about Steven Black? Claude Fox? Bill Sanders?

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
