Mark McCasland offered a suggestion of how I could sound the bell in VFP on a machine without a sound card. He called it beep_beep. You replied and said it did work correctly on a machine without a sound card. I have tried it and I still only get an almost inaudible tick sound through my PC speaker.

I am curious about your test. Is it possible you tested on a machine which had a sound card installed or maybe it had the PC speaker driver from Microsoft installed?

So far the best solution (the only solution) I have found is to use the PC speaker driver from Microsoft. It works, but apparently it consumes lots of CPU power.
