The worst of it is that I'd almost made it. I was coming down and got as far as the 2nd step from the bottom when my foot stuck (or whatever - I still can't figure it out) and my knees buckled. So close!

>Alan, just thinking about it gives me the heeby jeebies. A year ago christmas I fell all the way down some steep wooden stairs in the middle of the night and broke two ribs. I was very fortunate. When I went to my followup appointment about a week later with my own doctor, she told me she had just lost a good friend who died from a fall down the stairs. I guess, we were both lucky. I think I may try to stick with single story homes from now on! :0)

>>>>>>Between medium-well and well huh? Once upon a time I used to order my steaks really well done. When the server asked how I would like my steak, I would say, "I want to be able to write on the sidewalk with it." My tastes have changed, and now for me the perfect steak is between medium and medium-rare. I find it far more tender, juicy and flavourful that way. Damn! now I've made myself really hungry, and hospital food just falls a little short somehow.

>>>>>I'm going to a steak dinner tonight. I'll be sure to savor each bite a little more, while I'm thinking of you eating that wonderful mystery meat in the horsepital!<g> Then again, the bad food gives you something to look forward to, getting out!

>>>>Are you kidding? Hospital food is getting better all the time. Last night for dinner, I had something that very closely resembled chicken. And, with a little imagination, the grey jelly-like substance on it could very well have been mistaken for gravy.

>>>Sounds yummy!

>>>How much longer? You know we're all thinking of you.

>>I don't really know. Everything is so vague. I'll be going in for a new set of xrays on Tuesday, and the doctor will let me know if he thinks I can start bending my knees on my own, and if he thinks I can stand.
>>
>>So far the physio people come and bend my knees for me, and I'm supposed to remain completely passive. Physio wants 90 degree bending before they feel I can stand up and take a step, and so far we're at about 45 degrees or so. Apparently the tendons to my knees were completely ruptured in both legs, so they had to put screws into the knees and reattach the tendons. There have been so few cases of bilateral complete tendon ruptures with a broken ankle that I don't think any body wants to stick their necks out and give me a real timeline.

>>My own best guess... eventually. Which is, of course, waaaaayyyyy better than never.
