>>You may have heard he endorsed McCain the other day after saying he would stay neutral. The momentum behind McCain continues to build and all predictions are he will wrap it up today. The lunatic fringe of the Republican party, which has never considered him a "real Republican" (despite his voting record), is unhinged over this prospect. Their unhappiness is bringing me no pain <g>. Actually I think it's about time mainstream Republicans stood up to the social conservatives who have hijacked their party.

>In an interview given a german magazine (Spiegel AFAIR) here quite a bit before the start of the primaries McCain had already been the only candidate Arnie had named - well enclosed in sentences that "all are great blokes and have chances to win" - without giving his "official support" that way. I had wondered about his political "nose" when McCain was left behind at the very first.

>So while it is clear that he had to keep himself covered at that time, his support now is fitting with his interview back then. I think his "not supporting a specific candidate" is more a party line to make sure the "arguments" of such support can not be used against the rep candidate, if *somebody else* is chosen. Somehow Arnie supporting Huckabee never crossed my mind, and with McCain he seemed to be aligned the most. As there is little chance of him being called for VP, why not announce before Super Tuesday and be rewarded for the "risk" later, if McCain happens to run against Hilarious ?
>
>If he were allowed to run for VP, I bet some reps would shiver at the thought of a surprize announcement of Arnie as VP enforcer of Obama(!) to top his way of becoming gouvernor<bg>.

You're undoubtedly right that Arnold had stayed quiet now for political reasons. I didn't know he had spoken of McCain that way earlier.

Obama is always making jokes about how skinny he is, so maybe Ah-nuld would balance the ticket well ;-)
