I guess I should clarify :o) Somehow my DA records had me down as male, not female. My first assignment out of AIT was to an all male unit at Fort Bliss, TX. I stayed one week waiting for new orders. Unfortunately, to save money, DA sent me to the closest base with a slot available in my job: Fort Polk, LA. :o) However, DA didn't change my records so that when I left for Germany a year later they sent me to another unit of only males in Fulda. I was promptly told not to unpack, the entire unit was in the field, so my bags and I left for the field. I stayed with that unit from Fulda to Schweinfurt to Giebelstadt - a total of 3 years. When I got to Schweinfurt, it was a forward deployed unit with only a handful of women. Giebelstadt is the first assignment where there was more than 1 or 2 women in the unit. Germany was a great assignment in the long run :o)
