>>>No, our money is not all rightfully ours, not in any modern society. Not in mine, not in yours, not in Europe, etc. etc. etc.

>>This is just sad. I don't believe I have ever seen a greater argument for better economic education in this country than this one statement. Do me a favor. Regardless who wins the Dem primary, join their campaign and utter this phrase at every event you can attend.

>If we expect a military, if we expect police and fire services, if we expect more and improved roads/bridges/overpasses/etc, if we expect free public education, if we expect ?????, then how can "all our own money be all rightfully ours"?

I addressed this in my response to Mike, but I shall expand. I agree that the citizenry must contribute to the country, but I disagree with the idea that all my money is not mine. To accept that is to accept that the government is the sole authority over the wealth of this nation. It is to agree that you have no control over your private property because it was purchased with the money the government allowed you to keep. In essence all belongs to the state and your only allowed to occupy it until the state reclaims its title. There are other methods of taxation than a personal income tax.

This kind of thinking is dangerous as we've been seeing with things like the Kelo decision and McCain/Fiengold "reform". Both limit the rights of citizens in regards to their private property.
