I have a com server where the client's send the logged on user name using the win32 GetUserName function and based on that gives them access to certain functions, or nothing at all if not one of the names in the users table it's probably not greatly secure but if you're simply looking at stopping certain users doing dangerous things only admin users sould be able to then it does the trick.
