This is a pretty open-ended questions. I can think of a handful of ways to interact with data over the web:
-ASP using ADO
-ASP using Automation servers with or without ADO
-West-Wind connection (www.west-wind.com)
-FOXISAPI
-Active Document using ADO and RDS
-Fat client using HTTP

You can get information about all the above from MSDN library. Also www.west-wind.com has a selection of white-papers that discuss the subject.
