Neil,

You *can* restore a backup of a SQL 2000 database to a SQL 2005 server.

It's likely you forgot to go to the Options page and change the paths under the "Restore As". The paths there need to point to the Data directory of your SQL 2005 server.

>But today I have a new problem and I was hoping you could help once again. Server B is running the old sql server 2000 and contains NORTHWIND , which I modified. Server A has a fresh install of the new sql server 2005. When I attempt to run this trick of yours, sql server 2005 indicates that the the file that I am attempting to restore onto it is not a database file or is missing some components. Any thoughts? Please be gentle in your explanation. I am a vfp developer and know very little about sql server.

>>>Hi,

>>>I am new to SQL server. I have 2 computers (A and B) each with an installation of sql server developer's version. I have added data tables to Northwind and populated them on computer B. Now I need to overwrite the data tables on computer A with the data tables on computer B. In visual foxpro I physically would copy and paste the tables from B to A. How do I do this in sql server.

>>>Thank you,
