I am fourth generation San Franciscan, with family members , having arrived in 1849. Many members of my family were in the United States Military from the Civil War on.

When I joined the Air Force in the early 1960’s, I was told when I was going home on leave, “Do not wear your uniform in San Francisco”! So I wore civilian clothes when I visited. I found out why. Many disliked the military, and there were those who would take advantage of you if you were in uniform.

I like being a civilian better! :)
