The very first place I stayed in SF when I hitch-hiked across the country in the mid 80s was a motel in Oakland. One night and that was plenty! All those damn poor people roaming around! <g> Some of my best memories are of SF and hiking around the redwoods, Stinson Beach, Reye's Point, Bodega Bay... Really was an interesting time.
