I can't say everything he did in Mass. I do know that he took over the Salt Lake Olympics in the middle of the bribery scandal. At that point it was thought they'd lose millions of dollars. In the end, they ended up with a huge surplus. He definately turned it around.

He's left the door wide open to run again in 4 years.

That included, IIRC, the state university. (Solomon was in school up there, though not at UMass, at the time, and would remember the details bettter.) In my view, in a financial crisis, schools aren't the place you start cutting.
