On the whole, I do expect a person's positions to change some over the years, as they learn and experience more. In fact, one of my issues with GWB is that he won't change his mind even when presented with evidence.
What I find interesting is the hypocrisy. The R's called Kerry a "flip-flopper" because of changing his mind on, IIRC, a single bill. Romney has changed his mind on a lot of issues and he's the "true conservative" candidate.
In Romney's case, I find his "conversion" to be a little too politically useful to believe. Run for governor of the most liberal state and you're socially liberal. Run for the Republican presidential nomination and you're conservative. Hmmm.
