Title:
V9.0 SP2 actually does work under Vista
I struggled with several issues getting my applications to work under Vista. Microsoft support helped me and this is what I learned.
1) My developement computer under 'help, about' said 9.0 SP2, so I assumed everything was correct. The support guy said the version at the bottom of the page in small print has to end with ".5815". Mine did not, and I was using older code even though the larger letters at the top said "9.0 SP2". Apparently, the installation of SP2 does not work as well as it should.
I had to uninstall VFP and install 9.0 from my original CD and then download and install SP2 from my hard drive. I did not install SP1. The key is the version has to end with ".5815"
2) I ended up placing all of the files for Vista (using Install Shield Express) away from 'Program Files' directory which is protected in Vista. I am not sure this step is necessary, but I do know that all of the data files in the working directry has to be installed away from 'Program Files'.
All my technical issues, that seemed unrelated, cleared up after I did these two things. Of course I recompiled everything and confirmed that Install Shield Express picked up the vfp9*.dll files with versions ending in ".5815"
I hope this helps save somebody time, since I spent too much time on it.
