Backward, yes. Cruel, yes. Stupid, very. In any civilizational manner they're lagging about a century or three behind any secular non-tyranny.

Primitive - primitive is the first-of-a-kind, the "as it first was", and these guys just don't fit that bill. They aren't first in any of this - for anything they do now, there's a precedent in other monotheistic (or polytheistic) theocracies in not so ancient history. They even aren't original in any of it.

I really can't understand how can this be happening nowadays, but then I never really understood religion and its effects on common people.
