Last try would be to take ownership of the old user tree.
I don't have an XP machine handy so I'll tell you how it is done in Vista which should be very similar..
In windows explorer navigate to the c:\Documents and Settings\ folder.
Right click on the (Old User) folder. Select Properties. Select the Security tab. Select or Click on Advanced Properties (it is a button in Vista). You should see an Owner tab or have an option to change owner. Make your current account the owner. Make sure you check 'replace owner in current folder and subfolders' or whatever the text is.
If you can't see anything in the subfolders after that, I think you are out of luck.
