>>>But I am hoping we (all of us) stop trying to destroy our world and try live with it. Stop polluting it. Stop trying to kill each other over pointless causes. Find more efficient ways to produce energy, etc. Sorry, now I am just ranting again.
>>
>>I just hope the green way is not hijacked by corporations interpreting it the way they like, like this corn ethanol thing, which will actually cause more damage in the long run (uses more energy to produce than it delivers, raises prices of food across the board/world, expands the arable land at the cost of deforestation which will cause more erosion etc etc).

>>At the moment I'm having the roof redone, which will improve the insulation (I hope) and save on heating/cooling. Doin' my bit.

>I read an article a short time ago (can't find now), that said the Green way depends a lot fresh water being available. But even now, there is not enough. Also, mentioning corn (and other bio products), there is a shortage rising as we speak. The dream of the Ecotopia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecotopia) type world may be already beyond our reach.

Last night on the tele some scientists were discussing the amount of corn that would have to be grown to meet the so called need. We do not have enough water, we would have to destroy plants that convert CO2 to Oxygen, to have enough farm land to grow the amount of corn needed. The end result is we would be worse off.

This reminds me of the first oil crisis, which occurred under a Republican President of course! Nixon created a new post and appointed a person with the title of “Energy Czar”. It was mandated how much gasoline would be produced by each barrel of oil.

As I recall it was somewhere over 90%. A scientist spoke out on national television about the impossibility of producing more gasoline than could be done according to the chemistry involved. Reality and dictators do not mix! :)
