Dueling exit polls, I guess --

He showed signs of cutting into Clinton's reliable support, winning as many as 6 in 10 votes from women in both Maryland and Virginia, according to exit polls.

Re the Hispanic vote, I saw a quote the other day from a Democratic pollster who is not affiliated with the Obama or Clinton campaigns. Not using quotation marks because I don't have the exact quote but as closely as I can remember he said, I want to be very careful how I phrase this but historically Hispanics are reluctant to vote for black candidates.

>The only demographic Clinton won was white women, who broke for her over Obama by 10 points in Virginia and 13 points in Maryland.

>Actually what surprised me was that Latinos went more for Obama yesterday. Clinton has held the Latino vote all along until yesterday.

>>It's no secret that Obama has energized young voters (not just 17 year olds) more than any American politician in nearly 50 years. As the exit polls yesterday show, he is energizing others as well.
>>
>>I didn't see the statistic about Hillary surpassing Obama by 10% among women voters. The one I saw, on cnn.com, said Obama was the choice of 59% of women who voted in both Virginia and Maryland. (No, Dragan, I don't mean those who voted in both Virginia and Maryland <g>).

>>>He was helped by the fact that high schoolers were allowed to vote. If you will be 18 before the election, you are allowed to vote in the primary. Overwhelmingly, the young voted for Obama. Clinton only supassed Obama in women voters by 10% and in hispanic votes - no other area. Also, I read on CNN about "Obamacans." 7% of the voters in VA claimed to be Republicans and 70 percent of those polled after voting claimed they voted for Obama. His totals yesterday were sweeps.

>>>>I was surprised to hear John McCain on the radio this morning speaking of Obama as though he is already the nominee. That seems premature given that the delegate count is still close and both Obama and Clinton need several hundred more. Obama's string of victories (including Super Tuesday, when he won most states although not the big two) may have left Hillary in a hole from which she will be unable to extricate herself. But it's not over yet.
>>>>
>>>>That said, I have to say I like Obama's chances at this point. One thing I found interesting about yesterday's results was that Hillary's base seems to be breaking down. Obama got more than 50% of the female vote and nearly 50% of the white vote. If she doesn't do extremely well in her so-called firewall states, Texas and Ohio, on March 4 she's toast.
