Thanks Neil and John for your suggestions.
We were finally able to track down the source of the problem. SQL server would only allow one user at a time and would kill the first process whenever a second user logged in to our FoxPro application. However, the first user would not know he had been kicked out until he tried to save something to the database.
Our client says they will set up static IP addresses and hopefully that will solve the problem.
