I think your point is right on the money. What often pollutes this arguement is that we all have different business environments in which we function. I'd be the first to say that if I wanted to send my resume around and get a job doing nothing but VFP I'd probably find the pickings slim.

I think this is a good thing, as it protects me from being tempted to get a job <g>

But okay, for employment opportunities VFP is past its prime.

But consultants or IT shops who can solve business problems by writing software and have the trust of their clients will always be able to make a good living. I think the key right now is exactly what you said - SQL Server. Promoting a DBF based app in a corporate environment may make them nervous but when they know their data is in SQL server they seem to relax.

It also gives us the option of using the whatever is the best tool for the job when the client wants some web access to the data or needs interface stuff that might be more easily done with the cool third party stuff that just plugs right into .NET.

>You see no new work in VFP; Craig Boyd says he's having to beat it off. Good for both of you. If you're both satisfied and successful, who can criticize?

>FWIW I've spent the last week in LA with large corporate customers, none of whom asked or cared what software we used- apart from the database, which is SQL Server. I'm not saying we used VFP; I'm saying they never even asked. What impressed me the most was the weather which has been absolutely glorious, as you know. I'm liking this part of the US more and more.

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
