That's a good strategy, at least while you aren't sure whether it is, or isn't, spam.
Let's just say that if you receive an e-mail from an unknown person, you should always be wary. As indeed you seem to be.
There is not a single last name "Magnum", so there is every reason to be wary (depending on the specific claims in the e-mail).
