Can I force the field to behave like a numeric (for instance, if the user types ".", he will automatically go beyond the decimal point), or do I need a different approach (I was thinking of using an unbound TextBox, and setting a value)?

Nadya,
Thanks, but the situation is quite different. Your case was that you wanted an unbound TextBox, I want a
bound textbox, but, even though it is bound to a Character field, I would rather have standard numeric input.
Since all the workarounds seem to be fairly complicated, I will just change it to an unbound TextBox.
Hilmar.
