When I did it I actually got a number like 664342323-1235 from our devices. I guess it's probably dependent on the device type. If it's a cellphone you might actually get back the IMEI/ESN (which is a hex #); I've never actually tried.
I don't know if there are any other numbers available. I only needed to uniquely identify each device (I created asset stickers which were attached to every scanner that matched the device ID).
