The biggest, fastest machine you can afford ;-) Honestly, go with at least 4GB (just be aware you'll only be able to take advantage of, at most, 3.5 GB of that under the 32 bit versions of Windows). A dual-core is a must. I'd also suggest 10K RPM drive(s), like the Raptor. Visual Studio is a real pig, even on a fast machine. Dual monitors as well. I've got a 24" 1900x1200 and a 19" 1280x1024 and I still wish I had more screen real estate.
