Hi James,

At our company we've been using Xerox Solid Ink printers for years now. The initial reason to select a Solid Ink printer was based on a new type of Product Tags we were going to use. We required a very tough Tag, that was weather resistant and also the print had to remain readable for several months. On top of that it was required that the print was double sided and in full color.

When looking for real tough tags, you quickly end up with other materials than paper. There's lots of plastics around, but these are all not too resistant to heat. Printing these kind of tags on an ordinary color laser made all the reasonably priced tags melt inside the printer. Then the Tag supplier suggested we'd try a Xerox Phaser Solid Ink Printer. It seems that the printing process generates much less heat inside the printer.

We tested it and it all performed very well, so we had a solution for printing the Tags. But besides tags we also started using the same printer for regular paper and we were pleased with the results. And over the years whenever a new printer was required, we purchased a Solid Ink printer.

In our experience the printers are very reliable and come standard with lots of options like Ethernet connection and Double Sided printing. The pricing on the printer is reasonable and performance is certainly better than the cheaper color lasers. The cost for the Solid Ink may seem steep at first, but in real life cost for consumables is comparable to color laser cost.

Refilling the Solid Ink is a breeze and there's the advantage of much less waste as compared to laser cartridges.

Print quality is more or less comparable to color laser. Office documents print out fine and photo's are quite good. The only thing that puts off some people is that the Ink lies on top of the paper and glances a bit. When compared side to side with a color laser, you'll be able to see the difference. But this is a matter of personal taste. In fact people being put off by text printing really love the photo prints since they are somewhat more glossy than the color laser output.
With best regards,
