When I was living in Germany I had some elderly friends. There was an interesting couple - the husband was a prisoner of war and spent most of the war in a POW camp in the U.S. picking fruit in California. He actually enjoyed it. He was treated better and ate better in California in the POW camp than most of his life in Germany (I actually knew a few men who spent their time there). However he and his wife both insisted the holocaust never happened. They prefered to think of the Hitler who first came to power before the craziness started. Every German had very high hopes at that time for a prosperous and peaceful Germany. (Sortof like many Americans in 2000 when Bush was elected - and NO, I'm not comparing Bush to Hitler, I'm just pointing out how the appearance of someone during an election can be very different than the reality when they come to power)
>I know an elderly businessman who still wishes Germany had conquered all of Europe- reckons they'd all be better off.
