He even mentioned the biggest thing MySQL has going for it, which is that it is a free, scalable DBMS. Just to follow-up, the notion of "free" isn't fully true:

Also, you really only get support for things the open source community wants to work on.
I'm just not a fan of open source databases - too much risk.
