That's what I do, albeit from Amazon. But I am an old fart and therefore clueless about these things, dontcha know ;-) The girls are from the generation that has grown up with free music and are going to have a hard time getting used to that idea.
Yesterday I gave a look at Kazaa and Morpheus, two "free" download services. It doesn't look like they are going to be the answer. Kazaa is so loaded with adware and companion utilities that I don't want it on my PC. Morpheus appears to be in negotiation with the music business to only allow download of "authorized" songs.
