Reliability really depends on the design of your application system. What kind of transaction are you trying to do, like how many tables are involved in the transaction, etc ? If Updates are kept within a transaction then it is pretty save as MS SQL would be able to reject all updates within that transaction if something goes wrong. Hope that help.
